Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. Many people who don't know about the place mistakenly think that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact it is it is the West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. Her teacher suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen at times.
